ARE YOU SUFFERING FROM BACK ACNE?
You may be familiar with the term facial acne. But what is bacne and what are some of the ways we can deal with it?

Acne forms when pores or hair follicles become clogged, usually with oil or dead skin. Acne commonly results from overproduction of the body’s oil called sebum, inflammation of clogged pores by bacteria or the abnormal shedding of dead skin cells. Bacne or back acne is extremely common and there is no good makeup tutorial that can help make your back look flawless if you have bacne. The reason why your back is prone to acne is because the skin on your back is thicker and has larger pores than facial pores which means they are far more likely to become clogged, in turn making it more vulnerable to breakouts.
Furthermore, your back is usually covered with clothing which traps oil, and friction from the clothes continually rubs it back onto your skin. The problem is compounded by the difficulty of seeing and reaching the area, making the application of topical acne products problematic.
Another cause of bacne is also due to the sun’s UV rays which damages cells and makes skin weaker resulting in blemishes. And to make things worse, although sweating cools and detoxifies the body by cleansing pores of dirt, dead skin cells and excess oil, the released toxins remain sitting on the skin can clog pores and lead to breakouts. This teamed with the sun’s UV rays create oxidation which hardens the increased sebum caused by sweat and encourages the formation of blackheads.
How Can We Deal With it?

Use a medicated body wash
Shower daily using a medicated body wash that contains salicylic acid which has anti-inflammatory properties. It also exfoliates and reduces oil build-up on the congested spots.

Moisturize adequatelyIt may seem counterintuitive, but the skin on your back tends to be drier than facial skin. Applying moisturizer lightly around this area reduces risk of pores being clogged by dry/dead skin cells.

Shower the bacteria away
Change out of your workout clothes and clean up as soon as you are done exercising. Sweat and oil from workout can clog your pores and exacerbate existing back acne.

Rinse the residue away
Ensure that after rinsing your hair off its conditioner, all the residue is not running down your back. You should also wash your body after washing your hair to rinse your skin of any residual oil your conditioner may have left behind.

Exfoliate regularly
The skin on your back has larger pores, hence it is more prone to congestion and being clogged. By exfoliating two to three times a week, the pores are kept free from being clogged with dead cells and debris.

Topical Treatments
Adapalene – belongs to the “retinoid” class of medications that works by affecting the growth of cells and decreases swelling and inflammation. It may decrease the number and severity of acne pimples and promote quick healing of pimples that do develop.

Oral antibiotics or isotretinoin may be prescribed by the doctor, depending on the severity of the acne. Isotretinoin is a form of vitamin A. It reduces the amount of oil released by oil glands in your skin, and helps your skin renew itself more quickly. Isotretinoin is used to treat severe nodular acne that has not responded to other treatments, including antibiotics.

In-clinic treatments such as chemical peels and microdermabrasion can help unclog pores. Phototherapy (light treatments) such as Sexy Back Peel which combines a peel and light treatment that is used to kill bacteria and excess sebum. Our popular Silky Back Peel is a mild peel which uses salicylic acid that helps in clearing blocked pores, skin brightening, refining texture, eliminating p-acne bacteria, and is an amazing anti-inflammatory.
